  In view of the current unsatisfactory situation of science education in Asia, with its chronic lack of flexibility in developing student’s individuality, creativity, and originality, it is recognized that there is an urgent need to reform the education system in our region. As one of the first steps, a science camp, named as Asian Science Camp, is established to provide those very bright students in our region an opportunity to satisfy their desire for learning and to inspire them to pursue excellence in science research.

1. Aims

  The Asian Science Camp serves to enlighten science-talented youths through discussion and dialogue with top scholars in the world and to promote the international friendship and future cooperation among the best young students of the next generation in Asia.
The above-mentioned youths signifies the age spectrum of students from the last-year in high school to the third-year in college or university, or from the age of 17 to 22 years old.

2. International Board

  The governing body of the Asian Science Camp is the International Board. The International Board of Asian Science Camp (IBASC) is a not-for-profit educational non-governmental organization consisting of representatives from participating non-governmental organizations. Each participating organization specifies one representative to serve on the Board. Each representative is entitled to one vote. The founding members of the IBASC are :

  Wu Chien-Shiung Education Foundation,Taiwan;
  Surya Institute, Indonesia;
  Hong Kong University of Science and Technology;
  The Promotion of Academic Olympiads and Development of Science Education Foundation (POSN), Thailand;
  (Name not determined yet), Japan.

The International Board has the following responsibilities:
  (a) To direct the organization of the annual Asian Science Camp.
  (b) To help invite top scholars in the world as lecturers in Asian Science Camp.
  (c) To arrange the member organizations as future hosts of Asian Science Camp.
  (d) To elect the President, Honorary President and Honorary Members of the Board.
  (e) To approve the appointments of the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of IBASC.
  (f) To approve new members of the IBASC.
  (g) To revise the Statue when necessary.

3. The President and the Secretariat

  Members of IBASC elect the President of the Board from the group. The President’s term is three years and can serve for more than one term if re-elected. The Secretariat consists of an Executive Secretary and several administrative assistants. The Executive Secretary is appointed by the President and approved by the Board. The Secretariat assists the President conduct business relating to the IBSAC, The IBASC may appoint one person with the title “Honorary President of the Asian Science Camp” and a number of persons with the title “Honorary Member of the International Board of the Asian Science Camp”. The Honorary President and the Honorary Members of the International Board of the Asian Science Camp are members of the International Board in addition to the regular members mentioned in Item # 2.

4. Working Language

  The working language of the Asian Science Camp is English.

5. Obligations

  Each participating member organization should declare its intention to be the host for a future Asian Science Camp on a rotational basis. The Organizers of the Science Camp are obliged to cover the living and travelling expenses of all the participants associated with the Camp from the day of arrival until the day of departure. It is advised that the organizers provide scholarships to subsidize the round-trip air flight tickets for international student participants. There should be no participation fees for the Camp.

  Participation in IBASC signifies acceptance of the present Statutes by the member organizations.
